BELIEVERS, BUT NOT CHRISTIANS

"For My people are foolish, they have not known Me. They are silly children and they have no understanding. They are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge."Jeremiah 4.22
The pain suffered by God the Father because of the rebellious children of Israel in the past, is the same pain suffered by God the Son with the rebellious believers of the present.
Most believers call themselves Christians because it's convenient. They consider Jesus their Savior, but not their Lord. They rather obey their heart, instead of the Word of God. They are wise, clever and stubborn when it comes to evil, but not for what is good.

FLESH OR SPIRIT

"For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace."    Romans 8:5-6
Those who seek to fulfill the desires of the flesh (soul) will reap pain and suffering, until they are finished off by death.
But those who seek to obey the Spirit of God, that is, practice what the Word of the Spirit has inspired them, will enjoy the present and also the eternal salvation that is to come.

Troubled Soul

"See, O LORD, that I am in distress; my soul is troubled; my heart is overturned within me, for I have been very rebellious." Lamentations 1:20

There’s no way around it! Whatever a man sows, he shall reap. So how do you change the current painful situation sown in the past? By sacrificing. The only way is to unconditionally surrender your life to the Holy Spirit and walk away from sin once and for all.

Man of sorrows

"He is despised and rejected by men, a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief." Isaiah 53:3

The Lord Jesus is the Only One that understands us, knows our pain, how much we're despised, and our sorrows.
