"Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent." Revelations 2:4-5
To return to the first love, you need total abnegation. In other words, sacrifice, sacrifice, and sacrifice. People are not always ready to pay the price, but if they don't follow this rule, even what they have left will be taken away from them.
I've learnt and am still learning that sacrifice is a must with everything and to be honest life doesn't mean a lot if we didn't sacrifice even Jesus did, so how much more us???? As Paul said, we must humble and examine ourselves daily. Short but strong post, thank you Mrs Ester

ReplyDeleteWe need to always put God in 1st. place in our lives because sometimes we forget and we start thinking about our love life, our desires, our will, and we forget about God's will and that is when we start falling and then one day we are not going to be in God's presence anymore if we keep forgetting about His will. And I can say this is true because that is what happen to me one time and the devil kick me out of church because I begin to do my will again. But God knows why He chooses me even know that I left Him in the past and that is why now I want to serve Him with all the days He want to give of life.
So we need to ask God every day what He want us to do and be in constant sacrifice so our communion with Him is going to be more stronger!
What I understood is that our life and love for God continues to be a living sacrifice for Him, but not everyone is willing to pay the price, in other words, they are not willing to reject their flesh. But if we continue to go on this road, the little we seem to have left will be taken away also. We continuously need to seek God so we can keep our fire and lamp burning. Its either we give 100% to receive 100% or we have nothing to receive nothing also!
ReplyDeletethis is very true Mrs Ester it is not easy to return to your first love and thus requires sacrifice. When we first came to Jesus everything was new to us we did things with all our might but as times goes by we tend to lose this love and this is dangerous becuase if we do not remember the rock which we came form we can lose the lampstand, that is, the Spirit of God. It is vital for us to keep the fire burning at all times, we should not let the fire to go down. Sacrifice is the only way to return to our first love. tahnk you Mrs Ester this surely revives me
ReplyDeleteThis is a major wake up call to all of us....in the few verses above it says "..who walks in the midst of the seven golden lampstands..." meaning that God is always amongst the church; constantly inspecting us, our movements etc....He was there when we first walked through the doors, He was there when we developed our relationship with Him, He was there when we depended on Him for our every need, He was there when we sacrificed, He was there when we prayed. He saw our love, He felt our love. So who better than anyone to know from where we fell?
ReplyDeleteSometimes we assume that because we're still in the church or still involved with many activities, then we automatically still have this love, but it couldn't be further from the truth. The first love is the dedication you gave to God, the time you take to spend with Him; through His word and prayer, your care towards Him and so much more. As you rightly said, for us to get back to the first love requires nothing else but sacrifice.
Sacrifice is the key, if we re not willing to sacrifice in everything we won't get far with God. sometimes you can lose this love from getting caught up in routine and forgetting the reason why you may do this in the first place we need to always ask God to keep this fire burning because its so important.
