Abominable prayer

"One who turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination." Proverbs 28.9
Those who despise the counsel of God will have no one to turn to when calamity strikes. And then they ask, "Where is the Lord God?"

  1. I like this verse because it verse clearly states that the person didn't listen the word of God - they didn't want to do what God asked but the still expect a response from him. When we despise what God asks of us, we cannot complain when he doesn't heed to our voices. There is no sacrifice on our behalf calling for his attention. It reminds me of something we spoke about in the church yesterday - God loved Jacob but hated Esau- and why was this? Because he despised what God had given to him as the firstborn.

  2. To be honest, one who turns away from God has no right to ask for anything when it's like they don't want to have anything to do with God. They don't do what He says, but still they want things from Him. It wouldn't be fair if He gave or answered their requests.
As humans we don't feel happy to grant the request of someone that despises us. It's common sense. And God does not want to be used.

  4. Dear Mrs Ester
It is true this verse shows how one should walk in obedience if they expect a reward from God. I would say this as a mother when my son fails to do according to our rules, we too deny him of his privileges.
Our aim is to please God and to walk in obedience therefore His law is our daily living.

  5. Hello i believe that when we are not obedient to Gods voice,or we don't put in practice His words, there is no point in praying ,for God will not accept it.

  8. we can't expect God to answer our prayers if we don't even obey His voice.

  9. If we obey His word, God will be with us and we can turn to Him when things get rough. But if we choose to be disobedient He won't be with us. If God's not with us, who will be?

  11. This is such a simple principle, why should God listen if we don't want to hear is voice. God can help us He can't do nothing for us. Only when we take to the first step to hear His voice.

  12. Thanks for sharing Mrs Ester, its funny because i was reading the book of Romans this morning & there is a part in there about obeying authority & submitting to government (chapter 13). By submitting to government or authorities put in place by God you submit to god. What i have learnt from this & your post is that we cannot despise or turn our back to God in one circumstance & then when we want or are in need, turn to Him in in another. It is contrary, either we are going to follow Him compleately or we are not, we cannot be luke warm. Wehen we despise His word we automatically despise Him so how can we then come to Him after having bluntly rejected Him & ask Him for His help or favor. But thak God because He is merciful, longsuffering (patient)& forgiving.

  13. What is strong about this verse is that for someone to be praying, they must believe in God! And for them to 'hear' the Word of God, they must have been somewhere that God's Word was being preached!
This reminds me of something our Bishop was saying the other day, that for us who are in the Church for a while, if we have not yet given our lives to God, our opportunity to be saved could be running out if we are still not surrendered to God. Loosing Salvation is the biggest calamity of all!

  14. you know when reading this verse it makes me to think how easy for us to despise the word of God for example when a message is preach we say to ourselves this is for so snd so, if only that person was here to hear this rather than to say speak God show me how i can apply this to me.

  15. This message is really highlighting the principles of life the relationship between a parent and a child because even our physical parents do not listen to whatever we ask them when we have misbehaved or when we fail to honour them now you can imagine how much more God? I have learned that the key to receive anything from God or even ask Him for anything is obedience ,no obedience to His word is like cursing yourself.

  16. We always have to be watchful that we do not despise the word of God.
Sometime we only want to accept what we read which is pleasing to the eyes and the ears, but when God speaks to us directly where we need to change we can chose to ignore, that's when we wonder why our prayers have not been answered.

  17. God act with us the way we act with Him.
If we do His will and obey His Word, He will listen to our prayers and bless us
but if we do not do these things He will not listen to our prayers.

In everything we do is there a sacrifice.

But if we listen and obey God
We will be the happiest person on earth!

    God Bless
